Iä! Iä! Investigators fhtagn!
One of the most important - but most challenging! - aspects of the production of Death May Die is the vacuum trays and internal organization of the boxes. Fear of the Unknown is chock-full of content, and fitting big miniatures into small boxes and then all boxes into a bigger one with even more components can be quite challenging.
For this reason, for the past months we’ve been working closely with our manufacturers to find the best design possible for the inside of the boxes. We’re not quite there yet, as we’re still working on improvements to the core box to make sure tokens and cards can be safely stored. But we’re on the right track. Most of the other boxes have already been approved by our team, and will only go through minor improvements until everything is ready for mass production.
That also means we can start sharing here how some of our latest samples turned out!
Let’s start our update series with white samples of the Unknowable Box.
Different from its predecessor, all Lost Episodes unlocked during the Fear of the Unknown campaign featured miniatures, some of them quite big (looking at you, Rhan-Tegoth). We couldn’t simply change the size of one Episode Box, as it would compromise the fitting of everything else, so things needed to be adjusted as a group, and we also needed to preserve the standard height and width of all Episode Boxes so everything matches across the Death May Die line.
This, plus many of the Kickstarter-exclusive investigators coming with special tokens - some of them also quite big - made the Unknowable Box our most challenging of the batch.
In the end, we were left with a limited space for all other miniatures (investigators and monsters not connected to Episodes or the Elder One), tokens, and cards. But we think we managed to make the best of it, and everything fits comfortably.
(If these tokens look burnt to you, that’s because they are. White dummies are usually laser-cut, which gives them a bit of a toasty look).
That’s it for today’s episode! We’ll show more of the trays and other boxes in the upcoming weeks, plus more updates regarding production and schedule as soon as it’s possible, so stay tuned!
