Merci Endevor.
ça n’a aucun sens.
So, keep in mind that I only played the demo only once so far. So this is truly a First Impression.
TL;DR: as first impressions goes, I like it. I like the escalation & co-op mechanics and that it feels different enough from KD:M (I mention this because it’s easy to fall in the comparison). I didn’t find it as challenging as I expected, but I think that was just pure luck as I got very good rolls and all the BPs had a lower target number. So talking about KD:M, there are a few similarities:
- 4 characters vs 1 monster: you have to go out with 4 titans no matter how many players there are just as you need to go out with 4 survivors in KD:M
- Monster starts attacking then the players in the any order they wish
- Monster has a AI deck
- Monster has a BP (body part) deck that works similar than the HL (hit locations) of KD:M
- Monster dies when you successfully hit as many BP as wounds the monster have (in KD:M every time you successfully hit a HL you remove an AI card from the deck)
This is as far a similar the games are, the combat mechanics themselves are different.
There are two things I liked the most: the escalation system and the co-op mechanics
Escalation system: as the combat goes on, both the monster and the characters get stronger instead of weaker. For the monster: the AI and BP decks gets higher level cards as the monster is successfully wounded. For the characters: as they attack they gain rage or when they are wounded gain danger that unlocks new abilities or bonuses. Problem is that when you get more than 9 in either of the 3 attributes: danger, rage, or fate the character will more likely die.
Co-op mechanics: there are these tokens called break/openings that modify your dice rolls you gain these as you attack but not to use on yourself but to leave those for the next character who is attacking, so it is a question to coordinate who will attack after you and which tokens are you leaving to help them in the next attack. a character that has some stats, and during combat your character is basically a remote pilot for the Titan (which are sort of bio mechas). But I don’t think the character’s stats have any impact on the combat at all, so it’s more like a flavor thing. I suppose those stats impact in the exploration part of the game.
Hey guys! Hope you’re all enjoying a lazy Saturday! Today’s update was supposed to go out yesterday, but we stayed up late testing Temenos and preparing a ‘Big Fluff’ update for the current Primordials. It’s here now, though, so enjoy it!
Pledge Manager Extended…
We were hoping to close the PM by the end of January, but a considerable number of backers has yet to input their address data and finish up their orders (wake up! :P). Hence, we’re extending the PM window for one more month, to February 28th. When we close the PM, we’ll finalize the numbers for each available item, so you won’t be able to add anything to the order. You’ll also have to contact us directly if you wish to change your personal data.
We’ll be sending another e-mail reminder to finish up the PM to all those who have yet to do so. Note that the system may send an e-mail to you even if you’ve already finalized your order - in that case, simply ignore it.
Online Store Update
The new resin releases, Wishender Titan, The Burden, Hermesian Pursuer and the 75mm Knowledge Nymph will hit the Online Store on Tuesday, February4th!
The Wishender is waiting for his turn..
TTS Update
You seem to be enjoying the small slice of the gameplay offered on TTS and that brings us enormous joy. Don’t forget to send us your feedback, whatever it might be, it’ll help us make ATO an even better game! On our end, we’re gradually adding more and more stuff to the Mod. Sometime next week we’ll deploy the ‘Waywatcher’ Update, introducing the Labyrinthauros Battle (available at level 1 and 2). This also means new Gear, Weapons and abilities!
We’re still torn on this one: the Labyrinthauros will have a Vantage Point 100%, but I’m not sure if it’ll be just a VP card or card + model (as seen above). What do you think?
New rules preview
The Labyrinthauros TTS update will introduce a lot of new rules, keywords and so on. These will be available to read in the Mod… but some of you may not want to play TTS but still learn about all the new stuff coming to the game! For all those, I present you the Labyrinthauros Primer!
Labyrinthauros Primer
You notice a peculiar weather phenomenon take place above you: a black vertical line zigzags through the air at right angles, as if someone was drawing in the sand. Suddenly, towering stone walls rise from the ground all around you, trapping you. The line expands, like a tear, and a monstrous mechanical creature emerges from within at full speed.
As the wise men say, you pay for your curiosity with the oldest currency. Blood.
A new Primordial, the Labyrinthauros invades the Aeon Trespass: Odyssey TTS Mod! Not only that, you’ll get to experience both the Level 1 and Level 2 of this fearsome beast, just so you can see how our monsters change from level to level. Below you’ll find some notes on the new rules introduced with this fight.
Friendly Warning
At Level 1 the Labyrinthauros is just getting warmed up. This Trait is actually beneficial to the players. The Primordial is weaker and doesn’t move as much, so you can focus on learning his main mechanic: Labyrinth.
Labyrinth
As the Waywatcher, Labyrinthauros can summon the Cretan Maze on command. The Labyrinth Trait introduced the Labyrinth Tiles and the Labyrinth keyword. Whenever you see the keyword Labyrinth X, you will be placing X Labyrinth tiles onto the Battlefield. When placing Labyrinth tiles, there are a few rules to keep in mind:
you place the tile marked with the token, then move the token to the next tile type (as shown on the Trait card)
you always place the tiles in front of and adjacent to the Labyrinthauros
you always place it in such a way, so the space occupied by the Target of the attack gets covered
if you can place it over more than 1 Titan, place it in such a way as to cover the most Titans
you cannot place a tile on top of another tile; if you would be forced to do it, ignore Labyrinth
Labyrinth tiles
Labyrinth tiles are a special kind of terrain that is partially traversable. You can only move through the passages in the Labyrinth, while red lines denoted impassible ‘obstacle’ spaces.
Trample
Starting from Level 2, the Labyrinthauros does Trample. This is a powerful Trait that changes how you approach the Battle. Trample has several effects. First off, Trample means the Primordial moves forward at full speed and then turns to face the most Titans. Secondly, any Titan it moves through suffers Crash. Thirdly, if the Labyrinthauros Tramples over a Knocked Down Titan, that Titan immediately draws an Obol, regardless of their Danger level.
Vantage Points
Vantage Points are a new general mechanic that will be shared by a lot of Primordials. Basically, a Vantage Point is a ‘space’ on the Primordial a Titan can climb up to to deal more damage (or specific damage).
To climb to a Vantage Point, you first need to create one! In the Labyrinthauros case, the Vantage Point is created by dealing a Critical Wound on specific BP cards. When that happens, you put in play the Labyrinthauros VP card.
Climbing: To climb to a Vantage Point, you need to be adjacent to the Primordial and pass a Survival 4+ test (a free action). If you succeed, move the Titan off the Battle Board and onto the transformed model - or a VP card.
Effects: Each Vantage Point will have its own specific effect. In the case of the Labyrinthauros, the VP is considered a Weak Spot, you move with the Primordial, gain +1 break during ATB Rolls and ignore all responses (see the VP card for details).
Falling down: At the end of the Primordial’s turn, you must test Endurance 6+. If you succeed, you stay on the back or gracefully disembark to a space adjacent to the Labyrinthauros. If you fail, you fall down: place the Titan adjacent to the Labyrinthauros, knocked down.
Gaze of Temenos
Gaze of Temenos is a special BP card called a ‘Ploy’. It’s added to the deck as a result of other game effects (making the BP deck consist of 7 cards). The Ploy is denoted by a ‘III’ symbol, so it can be easily spotted in early game, but it gets much harder later on. When a Ploy is drawn, it will usually do some nasty stuff and prevent you from wounding, so you need to watch out!
New Keywords
Block: After you make an Evasion Attempt, pay X Fate and exhaust the card and cancel 1 hit.
Diversion: Diversion is a new kratos token you leave during an attack (along with Break and Opening tokens). When there is a Diversion token in the Kratos Pool, ignore ‘Fail’ Responses from BP cards.
Red Armor X: Red Armor X is a new keyword that makes you harder to kill. After you make an Evasion Attempt, calculate the number of Danger you’re gaining. Then, roll X red dice and subtract the number of POTENTIALS you rolled from that total. Then, proceed to raise Danger and draw Trauma normally.
Weapon Scaling
Much like Titans, some Weapons and Gear get better when you’re close to death. These items have special abilities locked by a Danger Level requirement. [Danger] X+ means that an ability is available when the Titan has at least X Danger.
Whew! That’s a lot of cool new things… and it’s only 2 Level out of 9. Of the second Primordial…
Nietzschean: the third coming
And here’s a look at the sculpt of the new Nietzschean. I hope this one gains your approval!
He emerges…
Art doesn’t exist in a void. It needs context to be fully realized and appreciated. The great paintings and sculptures are as much a fruit of the artist’s labor, as they are of the times they were created in. So too, we wanted to root our Nymphs in a world that is more tangible and ‘lived-in’. We love world-building and game design; cool giant monsters, grizzled anti-heroes and epic tales of adventure. All that — and much more! — awaits you in the world and game of Aeon Trespass.
I wrote that passage three years ago, just before we launched our first Kickstarter campaign. Those cool giant monsters had to wait a year, the grizzled anti-heroes another one. So it was left to the Nymphs to lead Into the Unknown onto the market – and they did so with aplomb! That first success allowed us to expand the studio and realize the dream of Aeon Trespass, you know this story already.
What you may not know is that there was one stretch goal of that campaign that we did not fulfill. Until now.
Nymphs Art Book
It was constantly at the back of my mind, like a faint feeling of a stove left on. But there was always something more pressing to do! Well, as we’re all housebound anyway, we found the time! Here’s the fully realized Aeon Trespass: Nymphs Art Book. It includes all the Nymphs, not just the original 16 from the first KS campaign. Yes, even Ambrosia, the unreleased one!
Each entry is accompanied by a short story that delves into the origins or nature of a given Nymph, while also expanding the world of Aeon Trespass. There’s a lot of Easter Eggs and hints of what is to come to AT in there too!
You can find the art book here.
It’s awesome.
New UI: BP and Traits
A lot of you were wondering how the new BPs will look like, now that we’ve redesigned the AI cards. Wonder no more! I think this is the biggest step up from the Prelude to date, though you will be the judge of that.
New BPs!
You may even notice some things that were not there in the Prelude. For example, there’s a banner in the upper right corner of the card, right where the AI card has the stats block. This is the resource space and is part of the Economy upgrade we’ve been talking about before: now you’ll get the Primordial resources straight from the Primordial’s body parts!
We also have a new template for the Trait cards, though compared to the BPs, this one is pretty subtle!
Traits for days
A thousand pictures: Pictograms Expanded
Hmmm
As you may have noticed from the AI, BP and Trait cards, we’ve managed to re-arrange the card information to make room for bigger Pictograms. Actually, we did such a good job with that, that even the most complex card can now feature an illustration.
We never intended to illustrate every AI and BP card, as that would mean we’d have to create more than a thousand new pictograms across 5 cycles. That would be crazy, right?
Well, that’s what we’re doing. So enjoy your upgraded AT:O with another 1000+ pictograms!
Nailed it!
New WIPs
Here are the latest WIPs for two new Titans, one from the Gardens of Babylon cycle, the other one from Black Flame of Atlantis. That leaves only Ur-Fleece and Nemesis, right…?
