Do you Know Your Enemies?

Update #21|100%xauto

Sunday Daily Stretch goal and Enemies overview!

Hello, Penitents!

A Sunday in Cvstodia cannot pass without a bit of news, and even though it’s the weekend, the Miracle will not leave you without an update!

Let’s start right away with the reveal of today’s Daily Stretch Goala New Enemy: The Carthos!

Books are not meant to be read in the Library of the Negated Words. Their pages hold forbidden truths, heretical thoughts that defy the will of the Miracle. Those who dare to open them forsake the path of faith, condemning themselves to oblivion.

The Carthos are the guardians of this forbidden knowledge. Covered by green masks, they carry sealed tomes, bound to their bodies like cursed relics. Each volume is a sentence, and each negated word is a seal against heresy. No one may cross the threshold of the Library without facing their judgment.

This Stretch Goal adds to all Rewards:

  • 6 Carthos miniatures (a Tier I enemy)
  • 1 Enemy Card with all its stats and special rules
  • 1 Procession Card

This new enemy can be added to any Pilgrimage you choose to play, creating new gameplay situations and forcing players to adopt new strategies thanks to its unique rules!

The arrival of a new enemy gives us the perfect opportunity to explain how enemies work in Blasphemous: The Board Game to help you prepare for the threats of Cvstodia. Let’s dive in!

Facing the Enemies – The Dance of Penance

In the pilgrimage through Cvstodia, enemies are not just simple obstacles but manifestations of guilt, pain, and the inscrutable will of the Miracle. Every battle is a trial, an act of faith and survival in a world where sin and redemption intertwine in blood.

The Combat System

When a Penitent encounters an enemy, they must confront it using their Weapon Dice, enhanced by Vestige Abilities, their Prayer Vestiges to modify the outcome of their rolls, and their Grace Vestiges to defend against enemy assaults. The battle outcome depends on a single roll of the dice, but the possibilities are endless.

To fight an enemy in the same area, the Penitent uses the Fight Action and follows these steps:

  1. Ask for Help - The Penitent may call upon a fellow brother nearby.
  2. Sacrifice - The Penitent may inflict wounds upon themselves to gain Fervor, which can be used to activate Prayers.
  3. Attack Test - The Penitent rolls their Weapon Dice to determine the success of the attack. Some enemies require specific results to be defeated, while others can withstand common dice results. To defeat the enemy, the Penitent must achieve numbers equal to or higher than those indicated on the enemy’s card and, if required, must also obtain the indicated symbols. Simultaneously, the enemy launches a counterattack that must be « parried » exclusively through the symbols obtained from the Weapon Dice.
  4. Use of Prayers - The Fervor accumulated during combat can be spent to unleash powerful Prayers either before or after the dice roll, altering the course of battle and allowing Penitents to overcome more dangerous foes.
  5. Rewards - Defeating an enemy is not just an act of survival but also a way to obtain valuable resources and Vestiges useful for the Pilgrimage. However, beware—if a fellow brother helped, they will take half of the loot!

Strategic Combat

Not every fight must be approached with sword drawn. In some cases, Penitents will need to evaluate when to fight and when to avoid confrontation, when to unleash the most powerful Prayers, and when to seek help to defeat an enemy that is too strong.

Every fallen enemy is a step forward on the path to redemption, but Cvstodia is a ruthless place: every enemy defeated could trigger a “Procession”, potentially flooding the map with new abominations of the Miracle.

Now you are ready to face all the threats of the Miracle! As always, we are here to gather your feedback, so don’t hold back—let us know what you think of this aspect of the game!

Daily Stretch Goal

And now we come to the heart of the update, with today’s Daily Stretch Goal reveal!

With the second Alternative Penitent Card for the Penitent of the Prayer of Abdon, we begin the second round of alternative cards for all the Penitents in the Core Box, which will give all our Penitents a total of 4 Profiles: A « First » Profile, a Profile dedicated to Solo Play and two Alternative Profiles!

Embracing the Penitence of the Unwavering Faith, the Penitent of the Prayer of Abdon devotes themselves to asceticism, forsaking the ways of the flesh to walk the path of the spirit. They abandon the strength of steel, clothing themselves in absolute faith, losing part of their offensive power but gaining impenetrable defenses and an even greater gift: the abominations of the Miracle no longer see them as an enemy, but as one of their own.

Able to explore even the most remote and treacherous corners of Cvstodia, this Penitent seeks neither martyrdom nor forgiveness, but transcendence. Their journey does not end with mere atonement—it reaches toward enlightenment.

Let’s also continue our in-depth analysis of the mechanics of Blasphemous: The Board Game!

Reading the message board, we realized that many of you are concerned about the variety of Pilgrimages and the fact that the Map of Cvstodia at first glance doesn’t seem to play a major role or change much from one game to another.

To help you understand how they work, today’s focus is on…

Pilgrimages

A Pilgrimage is an event that involves the Penitents and tells part of the story of the world of Cvstodia.

To date, only the pilgrimage “The Dreaming Prisoner” has been openly revealed. It tells the story of a monster hunt in which the penitents involved follow the trail of the elusive Ten Piedad, trying to put an end to a series of murders carried out by the being that haunts the dreams of the inhabitants of Cvstodia.

The way this Pilgrimage works can be seen in one of the many video reviews that have been released recently, and it’s basically a classic story in which each Penitent looks for traces of Ten Piedad while strengthening themselves in preparation for a final confrontation in which they try to defeat the terrible being before their brothers.

Today we want to show you a new Pilgrimage that you can find in the core game, “The Anointed Warden”, to show you the big differences in gameplay between one Pilgrimage and another.

The Anointed Warden

Esdras of the Anointed Legion is a man broken by grief, his heart still beating for a cause he does not fully understand. A devoted brother to Perpetva, his mind has remained trapped in the past, unable to accept the loss of his sister who fell in battle. He wanders Cvstodia weighed down by his faith and a presence that only he can see, whispering words to a shadow that follows him everywhere.

His companions believe he has gone mad, a victim of the trauma and of the Miracle itself, but his conviction is unwavering. Perpetva is there with him, an angel who guides him, protects him, and spurs him on to stop the Penitent. However, the truth is crueler than he can imagine…

At the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, the monastery where the Penitents gather, news arrives of the imminent excommunication of their order by His Holiness Escribar, the father of the cult.

To avert this fate, a handful of Penitents are sent to the City of Churches to ask for an audience and beg for clemency. However, their path will not be free of obstacles.

The Anointed Legion, the papal militia led by commander Esdras, considers them heretics and stands in their way. Every access route to the City of Churches is blocked, and the Bridge of the Three Calvaries, the main road to the residence of His Holiness, is guarded by Esdras himself, whose fervor translates into an unfathomable hatred for the Penitents.

To reach the dwelling of His Holiness, the Penitents will have to discover secret passages or face Esdras in a duel, hoping to force him to submit and earn their way through.

Only a pure Penitent, free from Guilt, will be able to present themselves before His Holiness and gain salvation for the Brotherhood, but the abominations of the Miracle will heavily populate the City of Churches, and even if you gain access, the journey won’t be easy.

In this Pilgrimage, the key points to succeed are as follows:

  • Exploring Cvstodia in depth allows you to unlock secret passages to the City of Churches.
  • Discovering Esdras’ motivations and torments will make him a weaker opponent.
  • Gaining power to face the Anointed Legion and the horrors that roam the City of Churches is essential to reach His Holiness free from Guilt.

Comparing it with “The Dreaming Prisoner”, fundamental differences in the gameplay become evident:

  • Only two regions of the Map are freely accessible, each Penitent will have to find their way to access the City of Churches.
  • The Enemies and Nemesis present on the Map from the start of the game allow you to plan your game strategy in the long term, instead of having to react to a Nemesis that becomes more aggressive over time, as happens with Ten Piedad.

The Nemesis is not the focal point of the Pilgrimage, and defeating it confers great advantages, but by no means guarantees victory.

We hope you enjoyed this long in-depth look at Pilgrimages and that it showed you the potential of Blasphemous: The Board Game! As always, let us know what you think in the comments!

That’s all for today, see you tomorrow with the reveal of the fourth expansion! Don’t miss it!

P.S. Spoiler Alert!

New Nemesi: Isidora

A new Boss!

Are You Ready for the Wounds of Eventide?

Mise à jour #24|100%xauto

New Expansion Reveal and Much More!

Hello, Penitents!

The last week of this epic journey through the gloomy lands of Cvstodia has begun! Many secrets have been revealed but many more are still waiting patiently to be discovered!

Today we reveal another big piece of the puzzle we have prepared for you, namely the fourth expansion for Blasphemous: The Board GameWounds of Eventide!

As you can see from the image, inside this box you’ll find a huge new Nemesis: The Sentinel of the Eternal Procession, the third (and final) incarnation of Escribar and four of his most faithful servants, the Seraph, angelic creatures and deadly enemies of Tier II!

But let’s not stop at just the miniatures, because the true power of this expansion can only be understood once you’ve read all the features, so let’s waste no time and get to it!

The High Wills, a new Pilgrimage

« Here we are, my crimson figure and you, on this side of the Dream. The Miracle has turned me into a sentinel of its sacred home. This is my new calling. »

Escribar is no longer a ruler, nor a prophet. After his fall as Last Son of the Miracle, he was not annihilated, but remade into something new, something eternal. The Miracle elevated him to guardian of its supreme will, a disturbing presence at the edge of the Eternal Procession, where the High Wills reside.

Here, beyond the Turned Throne, beyond the world of penitents and earthly mortification, Escribar still awaits. A crimson shadow that has abandoned all semblance of humanity, he has become the sentinel of an unfathomable mystery. He no longer guides, he judges—now he exists only to prevent anyone from crossing the sacred boundary.

The Penitents will have to go further than Cvstodia, entering the Dream, the otherworldly realm where the Miracle manifests itself in its purest form and where the High Will observe creation as its ineluctable guardians. By exploring these dreamlands, they will be able to discover new powers and gain the Divine Sides, fragments of mystical knowledge capable of enhancing their Weapon Dice. Only by mastering these gifts will they have any hope of facing the otherworldly entities that infest the Dream.

But it won’t be enough. To put an end to the eternal twilight, the Penitents will have to go beyond all limits, to hunt down the last form of Escribar, the Sentinel of the Eternal Procession. Only in the final fight to the death can the destiny of Cvstodia be rewritten—and its liberation from the grip of the Miracle and the High Wills finally be possible.

  • Gaining the whispers that reveal the secrets about the Sentinel of the Eternal Procession will open the portals to the Dream, giving Penitents access to the world beyond the veil.
  • Exploring the Dream will be an exciting new adventure of discovery and redemption that utilizes a dedicated Tome and in which Penitents can forge their weapon to a divine state with Divine Sides.
  • The Sentinel of the Eternal Procession hides in one of the Areas of the Dream as the last defense of the High Wills. The Penitent who tracks them down and defeats them will be able to put an end to the darkest era of Cvstodia.

Campaign Mode

This expansion includes the rules for playing Blasphemous the board game in Campaign mode. Using the Campaign Sheet, you can define a series of five Pilgrimages to be played in sequence, for a great competitive adventure in the world of Cvstodia.

At the end of each Pilgrimage, players will have the opportunity to indicate some of the Vestige Cards they have gained and mark them on the Campaign Sheet to begin the next Pilgrimage with their Penitent equipped with them.

The Campaign Sheet will also indicate the level of difficulty of each Pilgrimage, allowing you to use standard Enemies in the first games, their Torment versions in the advanced Pilgrimages, and their True Torment version in the Final Pilgrimage, giving a continuous sense of challenge even when the Penitents are fully geared.

All game elements will be compatible with Campaign Mode; all competitive Pilgrimages may be used, including Witnesses, Vestiges and all Enemies in your possession.

Beyond Cvstodia

With this Expansion we want to take players beyond the world of Cvstodia, just as the Penitent One does on some occasions, particularly in the confrontation with the Sentinel of the Eternal Procession.

To simulate this, we will include a small map with five new Areas, the MAP OF THE DREAM .

In this place, the Penitents will be able to explore these areas:

  • The Lake of Silent Pilgrims
  • The Plains of the Three Humiliations
  • The Path of the Ancient Procession
  • Court of the Shattered Dawn
  • Confessor’s Maze

Exploring these new Zones will make the Pilgrimage even more unique and discovering all their secrets will require a lot of effort and many, many games!

Finally, Wounds of Eventide also adds tons of gameplay, and it’s already included in your Cvstodia Reward, plus you’ll find it as a single add-on in the campaign’s add-ons section!

A Blasphemous Playmat!

As is tradition in this Gamefound campaign, together with an expansion there is also a cosmetic add-on, and today it’s a really big one! A giant Playmat (130x80 cm) to replace the core box game board!

This playmat, made of stitched neoprene, reproduces the map of the campaign and has space for five cardboard elements that replace the 5 Mission boards. These elements are included in the same package as the playmat and have slots to hold the cards and cubes firmly in place once you place them on the playmat.

On the other side you’ll find an awesome Blasphemous illustration, so you can use this playmat on any table, not just for playing Blasphemous: The Board Game!

Daily Stretch Goal

Today your Reward is enriched with two new True Torment Cards for the two tier III Enemies of the core box: Esquilón and Guardainfante.

If they weren’t already special enough, these two enemies will become real nightmares to face, and will put your skills as a Penitent to the test! Good luck!

Social Stretch Goals

While two challenges are still in progress, we’ve started two more! Here are all the details of these two new challenges!

50€ le playmat TVA in. :grimacing:
