Update #2 - True to Cyberpunk

Update #2|100%xauto

Cyberpsycho / What is Cyberpunk? / Checklist / Rewiews / Source / Cooperation / Path of Destiny on the edge / Easter Eggs

Greetings, cybercitizens!

Since the announcement of our new project we’ve got tons of comments. The prospect of returning to Night City stirred a lot of emotion. We aren’t surprised! We’re fans of Cyberpunk 2077 as well and share your excitement. It generates many questions though. Can you play solo? Is there a narrative plot? Will Panam appear? So we prepared a short video in which we say a bit more on what you can expect:

Cyberpsycho

Last time we encouraged you to share your first experiences with Cyberpunk. We’re impressed by how many experts we have among our commenters. You really set the bar high. So we totally understand that you might wonder, what are our qualifications and experiences with this universe. And what’s more important, whether they are enough to satisfy your expectations. To answer these questions, we decided to write our short cyberpunk resume:

  • 1873 hours – we asked our colleagues how much time they spent in the video game based on their gaming platforms statistics. Summing up all these hours resulted in a beautiful number that equals to playing for 78 days without breaks
  • it involves 160 hours on Xbox One right after the game came out, without complaining about glitches
  • 86% of our colleagues watched “Edgerunners” on Netflix, and the rest 14% declares they are going to watch it (or was officially ordered to do so ;))
  • 18% of our colleagues read “No Coincidence” by Rafał Kosik
  • 100% of our colleagues with such possibility played Cyberpunk 2020 in 1995 (the rest either hadn’t been born yet or was too young)
  • 3 weeks – the time that has passed since our last Cyberpunk inspired RPG session which we played in our office (would you like to know the plot?)
  • We all like pierogi

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> I wonder if they can even wipe their chrome asses without all these “qualifications” and procedures. Don’t be fooled by the detached corporate pitch. They put the light on themselves. Now you watch their every move! <g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

What is Cyberpunk?

Every good science fiction prompts reflection. It’s also a pretext to ask important questions, different from whose turn it is.

For us, Cyberpunk is first and foremost a deep and moving vision of the future, posing many difficult questions for the audience. A world in which technology has not only failed to solve our problems, but caused new obstacles. In this mad pursuit for profit we pulled out the brakes. Deluded by the promises the omnipresent digitization was supposed to fulfill, we let the ideological pillars of our civilization, such as the right to privacy and individual freedom, fall into ruin. In this grim world your social position not only ensures your comfort, but also determines the value of your life. If you don’t have wealth or connections, you raise your chances with cyberware. Who do you become then? How many borders do you have to cross and how many emotions do you have to suppress to make the hardest decisions? Are you still even human after turning every part of your body into a killing machine? Or maybe you are human precisely because you fight to live, against all odds and limitations?

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> Yeah, and now ask yourself, where all this shitshow came from. And who pulls the strings… <g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

Cyberpunk checklist

We’re not going to lie – adapting mechanisms of action-packed FPS with a deep storyline into a good board game is a truly ambitious challenge. These are two very different, very specific media of entertainment. Most importantly, board games encourage gathering friends and family around the table and experience an adventure together. So how is our version of Cyberpunk going to be? What have we taken from the video game to connect board game meetings with fast-paced and intensive impressions?

Core points:

  • Adrenaline and life on edge – one of the basic ingredients of every drink in Afterlife. After months of effort we’ve successfully developed a gameplay model that kicks every player into high gear. How does it work? We’ll share more about it soon!
  • Familiar characters – in our game you will embrace the roles of characters you know and like from Cyberpunk 2077.
  • Exploration – get ready to return to Night city, where you get the chance to visit the most iconic spots in the City of Dreams, take up some gigs and prepare for a bigger job.

Other features:

  • Dystopian world – check!

  • Fighting the Corps – check!

  • Moral choices and individual decisions – check & check!

  • Different storylines – check!

  • Ending that every cyberpunk character deserves – we have it!

  • Shooting and hacking – we have it too!

  • cyberware and other cyberextensions – of course!

  • weapons – check!

  • eddies – obviously!

  • character specializations: solo, netrunner, techie – check!

  • apartments – check!

All of this in the base version of the game! And there is still a lot to come. Go ahead and send your ideas of what we should add to the checklist.

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> For me, Cyberpunk is garbage bags. You know, the blue and black bags. Will you add it to the game? <g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

First impressions

This project is just as secret as Project Cynosure, although a few folks already played it and gave us some positive reviews.

Close to the source

We work on the game together with CD Projekt Red. This unique connection ensures our game profundity and authenticity which is hard to find elsewhere.

CD Projekt Red’s engagement goes beyond regular cooperation. People from different departments of the company participated in tests on different phases of game development, bringing their experience and perspective. A dozen people took part in the very process of preparing the teaser, including story and writing specialists or 3D models and lighting experts.

Such synergy enabled us to create a project that stays close to its source of inspiration and we believe that you will spot the links between the video game and its adaptation in every detail. Our project doesn’t only use the license of a rich universe – it’s also a fruit of joint efforts, which make it special.

Cooperation in the world of Cyberpunk

At Go On Board, our mission is to bring people together in unforgettable adventures. We believe that every journey is unique and everyone discovers something different in it.

We’ve noticed that some of you have reservations about cooperative games based on previous experiences. It’s clear that there are different preferences and expectations in the world of board games. However, we want you to know that we listen to you and take your comments to heart.

We have identified three key issues often raised in the context of cooperative games.

Below we share with you our unique approach to these challenges.

  • The Alfa Player – a well-known shortcoming of cooperative games. The dominant player takes the initiative, “prompting” others as to what moves they should make, resulting in a situation where one person plays alone and the others become passive participants. In our game, this problem disappears thanks to innovative mechanics of action during missions. We have created a system that encourages everyone at the table to think and cooperate individually, not allowing one person to dominate. We will share more details about it in one of the next updates.

  • Decision making – in traditional cooperative games, making choices in story mode can seem limited. While collaborative decisions can sometimes be exciting, they tend to lack the personal touch that makes each player feel like they have a significant impact on the action. In our game, the approach to decisions varies. Sometimes they are made together, other times alone or in tandem with another participant, which adds depth and an individual dimension to the shared gameplay.

  • Balance – when creating a cooperative game, we prioritize achieving the right balance. We are aware that a game that is too difficult leads to frustration, and one that is too easy – to boredom. The balance is taken care of by our eight-person development department, subjecting the game to various tests.

Is Cyberpunk – The Board Game a coop game? Yes.

Is this the kind of cooperation that the world of board games has accustomed us to? Not at all.

Our project hides a few more surprises that may evoke different emotions. Therefore, we wholeheartedly invite you to be open-minded and join us in this adventure. Our search for the best solutions continues, and as some say: the best idea is a lot of ideas. So don’t hesitate to leave yours in the comments. May the unknown inspire you as it did us during our creation process.

Path of Destiny on the edge

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> What is this? Some kind of BrainDance? I know of two BD dealers from DogTown. If it’s from them that means… it’s good sht. Take it.*

What?!? … you thought I could only complain and throw cynical comments. Pff! When I see something good, I say so.

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

6 reasons to pre-order The Witcher: Path of Destiny:

  • it’s a great game with good reviews that’s worth having in your collection;
  • you will get all unlocked Stretch Goals worth $135 for free;
  • you have a chance to grab exclusive content, then unavailable… well… never and nowhere;
  • the game will arrive to you earlier than in stores;
  • you can pay in installments at no extra cost;
  • every person who has already pledged one of our games in the past will receive a pin - if you order Path of Destiny and then Cyberpunk, you’ll get a cyberpunk pin free.

What will the pin look like? Good question. The question, in fact, to you. What do you think symbolizes Cyberpunk best? What symbol, drawing, image would you proudly pin to the lapel of your jacket, backpack or jacket? Write in the comments.

Easter Eggs

With Easter coming up, we would like to inform you that we may be a little less present in the comments section in the coming days. This time is important for us, but we don’t want to leave you without a little challenge. Our teaser hides some details that may have escaped your attention.

We encourage you to go on a holiday search for easter eggs. Share your discoveries in the comments under this update. :slight_smile:

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

That’s all for now.

Nouvelle update…

Update #3 - First (person) view on the components

30,000 followers / Player Board revealed / Action Cards and FPP / More about V with Mantis Blades / Panam or Judy?

Hi, chooms!

Firstly, we want to say that it’s an incredible honor to host over 30,000 followers on this project. There’s so much of you that you could fill a quarter of a megablock!

If you’re a newcomer, then do yourself a favor and click ‘Follow’ to stay for longer and save some eddies on our exclusive content. What content? Ha, you’re about to find out more in this update! Also, Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game is a cooperative game… so why don’t you invite your friends over here? It’s better when the whole crew knows the details.

If we were a ripperdoc, this update would be your Kiroshi. Today, we offer you some data that will expand your perception and change your perspective. You will get a chance to have a closer look at the V character board (the mantis blade version, which you’ll get for free if you follow the project). Also, prepare yourselves for a vision-changing experiment, as we’ll show some of our action card designs to present how we reflected the video game vibe in Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game. Then, a few more words on our Gamefound Exclusive and our plans for the upcoming update.

In addition, we prepared a shorter, more condensed video version of this update. Be sure to check it out!

Your (Tabletop) Cyberdeck

Your mission won’t succeed without the proper gear. Remember, you are going to enter the lion’s mouth. This is why you must set up your character board before stepping into the action. We’ll introduce you to it by using a character you already know from our previous updates – V with Mantis Blades, our First Day Gift. Let’s have a look at what we can find here…

  1. This is your character ID card. It activates your character board. Every character comes with unique abilities that will help you accomplish your goals.
  2. Your health bar. Keep the results high. Losing too much blood will slow you down.
  3. Wounds. You don’t want to collect them as they restrict your tactical options by clogging your deck and hand. So once again, keep your health level high. Four mistakes, and you’re all out.
  4. The discard pile. It’s like a place where the shells fall after firing shots. In this case, your action cards are your ammo.
  5. Your deck. The cards you draw define your next moves.
  6. RAM track. The power you collect enables your quickhacks and is useful for completing objectives. It’s good to have some reserves if things were to go sideways.
  7. The quickhacks, of course. We all find ourselves in a tight spot every now and then. They can save a lot of trouble for you and your teammates.
  8. Your weapon. Be patient – these are complex pieces of iron, so we’ll share more about them in the future.
  9. The booster might come in handy when you are only one step from victory, but run out of bullets or stamina. Just remember it may not refresh anytime soon, so think twice before using it.
  10. Crafting cards are your improvised resources. They might come in handy right when you need an extra punch.
  11. And here you develop your skills. They correspond to basic actions in the game… but how do they work, it’s a topic for another occasion. :wink:

The beauty of perspective

Like we said before, action cards are your basic resource. So, it is essential to maintain their functionality, but also style. Inspired by the artistic vision presented in the video game, we decided to implement the first-person perspective into our adaptation. We wanted you to truly and deeply immerse in the story so you can become its heroes. Our goal was to throw you right into the action, make you feel like actual edgerunners. We are excited to give you a sneak peek at some of our designs and show you what you can expect.

Ooops… seems like we ran into some technical issues here. No worries, we made a copy and published the correct version of art on the Board Game Geek website. Check out our gallery! Leave a like and a heart if you enjoy this type of sneak peeks.

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> What a joke. They dragged us right here to read this Gutenberg Bible, now they lead us to another page to watch the rest of their ‘content.’ <g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>

Shoot’n’Slash

As you know, you can log into your board cyberdeck as one of four playable characters. V, however, has two forms. The standard version takes down enemies with a classic, foolproof gun. The alternative Gamefound Exclusive V prefers close combat as he really starts to shine in his deadly dance, helped by his chrome partners, mantis blades. And look at this pose – because nobody said that slashing can’t be stylish!

So, how does it work? The exclusive V comes with a unique set of components. To unlock his full potential, insert the proper ID card into your cyberdeck and put the corresponding miniature on the board. Then, swap two standard cards from the character’s starting deck with alternative action cards that reflect the mantis blades combat style. This solution will ensure balance and enhance the player’s tactical possibilities without completely changing the basic character gameplay design.

Getting two builds for one character sounds pretty neat. Depending on your mood, you can choose whichever suits you better for a specific gameplay. All you need to do is follow this project. And what’s even better – V with mantis blades is a free bonus to your pledge if you back the game during the first day of the campaign!

<g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂> Now listen, ’cause I won’t repeat this again: click the goddamn ‘Follow’. They still think you can’t see through their game. To really outsmart them, you must play along and reassure them of their beliefs. It’s like a double-agent sht. <g̥̤͌̈l͈̯̾̀ĭ̢̜͝t͙́c̖̩̮̔̾͐́ͅh̫̜̓̂>*

What’s in the next update?

Before we log out, we need to announce the upcoming update. Today, V was in the spotlight. But there are more folks that you’ve got to meet! Next time, you will get a chance to have a closer look at Judy, Panam and Jackie. To make sure that you won’t miss it, click the heart icon on the project’s main page. :wink:

The fight of the night! What’s your bet?

We shared some juicy intel today. It’s time to pay your giri. Tell us – who’s your favorite character? And most importantly: #teamJudy or #teamPanam? Share your thoughts in the comment section and see you in the next one!

Quel cauchemar.
