Tidal Blades 2 : Rise of the Unfolders - par Druid City Game - livraison juin 2023

1 / 22 : The Vinian Ridge
To lead up to the campaign, we’ll be releasing one key art and take you on a tour around Naviri.

Today’s art is showcasing the Vinian Ridge, a mountain range at the northern limit of the city. The climate is typically wetter than in Naviri—much like the Fury Isles—but it’s less affected by storms because those regions are better protected by the land. They get a lot of rain and humidity year-round, creating lush jungles. The area is often covered by a thick layer of fog and mist.

We’ll explore the dock of Vines in a later post, one of the main settlements in the region!

Art by Mr. Cuddington, from the RPG Book by Monte Cook Games.

2/22: Radiant Bay
Welcome to Radiant Bay, the cultural center of Naviri! It is a vibrant, eclectic place, full of color and music. A popular tourist spot, Radiant Bay is known for its racing tracks, good restaurants, hotels, and large party boats circling the bay. Many people like to come on their off days to have fun and spend their hard-earned shells. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and plan your next adventure!

3 / 22 : Fighting Monkulas
Naviri might be a near paradise, but the outskirts of the city are not without danger. The desert coast is home to many dangerous creatures such as the monkula, a heavily-armored spider. Monkulas have powerful legs that allow them to take huge leaps, and extremely sharp mandibles with which they quickly dissect and devour prey. Some young monkulas spin a web between the horns, spines, or other body parts of bigger creatures and go along for the ride, hoping to find new territory.

4/22: Talon
Talon is another region just outside of the city’s limits. The town is not floating like most Navirian docks — because of the constant storms lashing the coast, its bases are solidly anchored below the sand. It is run through by many waterfalls, most of which are used to activate huge water-powered hammers in their forges. Talon produces most of the raw materials used for building floating houses in Naviri.

5/22: Vines
Moving back to the northern side of Naviri, towards the foggy Vinian Ridge, we find the dock of Vines. Half floating and half built on a steep cliffside, Vines is the biggest dock in the region, boasting some of the area’s most spectacular waterfalls and a constant thick fog that permeates and covers the area. Vines is home to the largest frog population in Naviri. They specialize in extracting fibers from the trees to make sails, rope, and clothing, and are often seen carrying their young in pouches on their back while they ascend high up the cliffs.

6/22: Adventure
Naviri is full of small, mostly unexplored islands. One such location is the Cay of the Bullubura, a remote island in the Wayward Sea. Due to its location in an unusual wind stream, the fact that it’s rarely been disturbed by people, and possibly some other unknown reason, the island is teeming with plants and animals not found elsewhere. The area’s unique ecosystem gives it special appeal to lorehunters, aquaculturalists, and scientists.

7/22: Coral Guards
Naviri is a world of cooperation, science, delight, and celebration. But like any society, Naviri also has its share of dark corners, dark dealings, and dark characters. While Tidal Blades patrol the Fold and outer reefs, the city itself is under the protection of the Coral Guards, the Navirian police and military force, who work hard to keep the islands safe from monster attacks while also enforcing law and order.

8 / 22: Bab’s boat
Of all the exciting things to do in Palm Plaza, getting a VIP ticket to Babs’ boat certainly wins the prize. Barbaree Lamara is the co-owner of Lamara Stadium and one of the two remaining heirs of the Lamara family. However, the hostess is mostly known for her excentric parties overflowing with fine drinks and the laughter of the city elite. If you’re looking for a racing sponsorship, she’s the person to impress.

9 / 22 : Coral Mining
Coral mining is a strictly forbidden practice inside city limits to preserve the fragile ecosystems all Navirians depend on for food production. But since Citadel law is not enforced in the Scattered Reefs, scampers have made a lucrative business out of mining coral here. Once burnt and ground to lime, the coral provides the raw material needed for the construction of floating units.

10/ 22 : Fury Isles
The Fury Isles are an archipelago south of Naviri, outside the limits of the Floating Islands. They are usually accessed by crossing the Eon Pinnacles. The islands are made up of two mountain ranges, Oniro and Malori, the first of which is a sleeping volcano. Legends speak of a third mountain, Akora, which is said to have awoken and disappeared into the ocean.

11/ 22 : Trawl
The dock of Trawl can be found past the Broken Ridge in the Howling Sea. It shelters a close-knit fishing community, many of whom make a living hunting spinesquids or razor eels. Trawlers are known for their unmistakable accent and strong sense of pride, as well as for their deep-sea fishing skills.

12/ 22: Remo’s Dock
Remo’s Dock is a drifting township that travels back and forth along the Inner Reef. Because it’s so close to the Fold, the principal activities for Remlings are sheller and mudcrab hunting. People there are often seen as free-thinkers and originals, bordering on anarchists.

13/ 22: Sea Battle
Unlike the razor eel, which typically appears in larger swarms, the giant thunder eels are as romantic as they are deadly. Once they find a mating partner, they are bound for life, uniting their powers to release fatal bursts of electricity. While they don’t typically look for a fight for no reason, they do claim large territories, the borders of which they aggressively patrol and defend.

14/ 22: Scattered Reefs
The Scattered Reefs are a continuation of the Reef Barrier curving toward the continent, a vast landscape made of scarce patches of coral. Many monsters roam the area, coming from the ocean farther north. It’s also the home of many of the exiled criminals known as scampers. People traveling alone will often avoid the area altogether, and some crews carrying precious cargo will hire mercenaries to help them get their merchandise across.

15/22: Sai’s Gulpshack
Sai’s Gulpshack is a famous restaurant owned and run by Sai, and built on the tip of the Banclam Estuary. Many Trawlers like to end their day’s work here, as it’s reputed for serving the tastiest smoked banclams in Naviri. During big festivals like the Nine Cups, the restaurant’s so busy that it hires additional workers and expands its space, creating a large outdoor area to accommodate the crowds.

16/22: New Mingu
Along with the Floating Gardens, New Mingu produces most of the food consumed in Naviri, with the rest coming from deep-sea fishing activities in the Howling Sea. Most of the coral farms and seagrass plains of Naviri are concentrated around the reef patches of New Mingu. The dock is partly under the control of the Orchardians, which over the centuries have perfected sustainable practices to harvest food from the coral ecosystems.

17/22 The Guaracuda
Thanks to its lightning speed, high intelligence, and tough hide, a guaracuda is one of the most fearsome predators of the sea. They have been known to take out entire families in a single hunting raid, and farmers take special precautions when guaracudas are in the area. Guaracudas live in prides of around six females, who do the hunting, and a dominant male, who guards the lair and is recognizable by its colored mane and elaborate black tail.

18/22: The Desert Market
The desert market is a periodic marketplace spread out along the shore next to the Droska Ring, just at the entrance of the Droskani Desert. When active, the market is mostly occupied by Stoenian caravans, which come and go during the year. The rest is filled by Navirian merchants who set up temporary small huts and tents to make the most of the increased activity generated by the arrival of the desert traders. Here one can acquire a multitude of items that are difficult to find elsewhere. Illicit devices can also be obtained on the black market if you know which tents to visit.

19/22 A Dock of Their Own
We are so excited about one of the adventures that Shanna Germain designed for the RPG book! It invites PCs to work with a small group of NPCs to build their own floating dock. Players then have to secure the area, find a reliable food source, grow their community, and build various structures to turn it into a flourishing collective. What kind of business would you open if you were to settle in Naviri?

20/22 Strangler Wasps
Strangler wasps are dangerous sea creatures, about twice the size of the jellies grown in farms. Living in large swarms, they gracefully glide through the ocean following the majestic strangler queen. Because most people are familiar with the smaller, less dangerous jellies that are raised in jelly farms, it’s easy for people to underestimate these monsters. More than one character has met their end by deciding to take a “shortcut” and swim through a strangler wasp swarm.

21/22 Having Fun
When we worked on all those images for the RPG we felt lucky to have all those opportunities to draw not only the great battles of the aspiring Tidal Blades but also all the small things that make this a breathing and living world. We honestly can’t wait to see what adventure people will make within this world.

22/22 Exploring the Wardian Sea.
This is our last day of touring around Naviri. We hope you enjoyed the trip and that these images gave you a taste of what you’ll be able to create within the world of Tidal Blades with your roleplaying group! Will you set sail for the Wardian sea in the hope of receiving training from the fierce nomadic seafarers that roam the area? Or will you live on the fringe as an outcast, planning an elaborate heist in the very heart of the Citadel of Time? In any case, we hope you‘ll have as much fun becoming croc mercenaries, nag’i drifters, and frog champions as we had drawing them!
