un chouille de plus oui, mais partagé en 2 du coup c’est pas ça qui fait tellement la différence
Madeira Collector bouge encore…

Hello Everybody, this is TinuZ!
Please pay attention to this announcement and following comments.
Nice to meet you all, I’m now in charge of this project communication channel on KS, on behalf of WYG?.
I’m playing in between the parts here: first, I’m a KS backer since many years (not Madeira, I missed it!) and like all of you, I fear the idea of baking projects that might never hit my games-shelf; second, I well know WYG? principals, and I trust them.
→ This means:
I’ll try to fill the info sharing gap which is in place and repeatedly complained by many of you. I’ll try to do it at best of my possibility, I’m not English native speaker and I’ll make for sure mistakes by not using the proper verbiage while aiming to address your concerns. Wrong verbs/words/typos will appear here and there, so, with all these clearly stated and disclosed: please, just be patient!
(many of you are being very patient already, I’m referring to the ones who lost it along the way).
→ This doesn’t mean:
- … that I will reply at every single comment, my mission is to read everything and update the situation more often than how it was done until now.
- … you can shoot the messenger (me) unloading on me your frustration (I already know you hold a lot of it, but unfortunately I’m not a psychotherapist
).
- … my words can be considered carved in the stone and used against me/WYG? later on. We all have to be on the same page here: commitment is to fill a need and be all a bit more relaxed. Unpredictable events are out of my/anyone control … we all have learnt by fire, experiencing what means “unpredictable” in the last few years: global pandemic; manufacturing shutdown; sea vessels obstructing canals; raw materials and shipment costs increase … Events that all together can be considered catastrophes for a small Publishers like WYG. Next, we’re waiting for 3rdWW and alien’s invasion, hence, stay tuned! (Yes, I’m sarcastic, but remember the previous point)
What’s now? Let me start with some FACTS that don’t really need to be discussed. These are facts, happened in the past. Once stated them, my goal is not to mention them anymore nor waste time arguing in circle, my job is to report every move done forward to bring this game to your doorstep. I really hope you get this point. So, the facts:
-
WYG recognizes that communication wasn’t handle at its best and in constant & proper way during this project (this was driven by so many different reasons, professional and personal, not my job to provide any comment on these). That’s why I’m here now (and “better late, than never”).
-
The game artworks/graphics/mechanics were at 99% of readiness when the KS project was kicked-off. Of course, all other components like wooden bits, trays, metal coins, dice, were all designed but to be made yet; and, even if expected to be in the shadow of the overall timing, no one could have expected so many further complications, which have affected the production more than any other project started at the same time.
This all started because the manufacturer never fulfilled what was agreed while WYG?, way before the beginning of this campaign, planned the best quality for “Collector’s Edition” new line of games. So, they knew that multiple loops of samplings were necessary, and they calculated time and money based on the agreement made with that manufacturer that among others, showed the skills to do the job for that price… then all went wrong.
-
Delays due to changing Manufacturer, stacked up on other delays (sub-suppliers of all components had to be changed too, cause of course the first manufacturer didn’t share them) which stacked up with global issues (as mentioned before) in series … which stacked-up with many personal issues. All in all, these delays have dragged the project till present days. Is it difficult to believe? Probably yes, but I’ve witnessed it ALL since 2019 as I am “that guy” involved by WYG? in China, to support with local arrangements (because WYG? principals had no chance to travel here, to solve problems in a blink of an eye like they used to do for the past productions).
-
There are NO intentions not to deliver the game, and absolutely NO fraud in place, not even to be mentioned. Full stop. The only case this game won’t be delivered, it’s because WYG? went bankrupts, which is not since they were and will still be, considered one of the (small but) best labels for hardcore gamers around, moreover with exciting games in the pipeline that so many of us are waiting for.
-
Treating with legal actions, insults and defamations ARE TOXIC. Not only for this or any other project, but also for you backers, who poured money on it. All of you want the game asap but the few of you that continuously play against it, will only create unnecessary pain to all the parts involved in this project, starting from the backers themselves. I see it like all these actions are drops of water that will overflow the glass at a certain point, breaking this project once for all. This is self-destruction by definition. Up to you, nobody here intend to stop nor prevent people from freely express themselves, I’m just trying to put some old good common sense on the table (at least, that’s my opinion).
I think I stated a lot. Nothing more nothing less to reassure those who were already positive to it, but hopefully calming down the negative and upset friends who were more and more thinking and getting convinced about the worst-case scenario.
Now, after so much bla bla bla. Let’s go to solid news on the current status production.
Here we go:
A) About artworks and printed materials: game box, main board, punchboards, cards, tiles, tokens, etc.: full sample/mock-up was delivered and approved (you may have seen pics in previous updates). In order to guarantee the colors quality (and not only) WYG? requested to the suppliers, also for a pre-mass production sample by final offset printing process (yes, we started the printing machines because WYG? cares about what they committed on best quality. No other Publishers do that, as far as I know, due to the enormous cost it requires. Respect and hat off). I was there in person supervising with my happy face, and samples of the print-run were sent to Portugal for a last check as well.
B) Metal coins: They are approved and produced, and already sitting in the Printer’s warehouse (you can’t believe how many suppliers and sample loops were needed, after the default of the first manufacturer, to complete only this component. Challenged by Veronica I literally had to buy tools to measure dimensions, weight and inspect surface treatment and finishing).
C) Wooden bits: again multiple suppliers and samples loops due to silk-printing unstable process, centering the silk print and having colors matching (not guaranteed by any manufacturer but we did it). Last sample batch was delivered and approved for final production. In the moment I’m writing, Printer confirmed production is completed and being shipped to their warehouse.
D) Dice: copy/paste the previous line about running multiple samples with the exception that numbers are carved and painted. Dice are being shipped to their warehouse.
E) Customized Trays: last but not least, one of the most visible and difficult parts that has to allocate all materials and fit properly in the box, matching other trays. Here the bad/good news: once they got the samples, they’ve noticed there were some issues for a perfect closure of the box due to the punchboards thickness and for properly allocating the sleeved cards (I know this often happens to other Publishers, not a big deal). The factory was closed for almost the whole month of August and are now they are working on it. They said in few weeks the issues will be solved and they will start the mass production. This mean they really hope to close this topic by September (but consider new samples and shipment to Portugal, so I would cautiously say October is more realistic).
F) If all things work, mass production could run in October-November, vessel booking and shipment to fulfillment centers may take 2 (best) or 3 (worst) months, then final shipping to you … hence I roughly forecast 2023 Q1 you all shall get your deserved game box (viruses/cataclysms/aliens allowing!).
That’s all for today … you’ve got some visibility and a most requested TIMELINE!
I really hope you find this update and its news satisfying.
To me, so far, was a meaningful experience being so close to the creation of a such deluxe board game, witnessing WYG?’s little boat navigate in such a perfect storm, never giving it up, just like Rick Astley intended! (and I used as title of this update :p)
From the top of my mood, I wish you all my best!
TinuZ
and the, behind the scenes, hardworking WYG? team.
AH, for the very few who were in doubt of the trays (the first samples … now under tuning):
Vous et 135 autres personnes aiment cette actu
Super !
merci
Hello Madeira’s Friends from all over the world!
« It’s astounding, time is fleeting, madness takes its toll. But listen closely, not for very much longer, I’ve to keep control »!
Dears, I kept you waiting a few days more than expected with my Update this time. In return be ready for some reading!
But why did I keep you waiting? This was driven by two main reasons:
-
well, the most important part, printing the deluxe game, is behind us and that was my original main duty … beside which I got (volunteering) the chance to help with these Updates and talk about whatever is going on (fundamental to keep all Backers comfortable) but since last Update I felt not engaged enough and wasn’t getting solid feedbacks to feed you.
-
also, remaining tasks were not under my control, but I kept urging my friends in Portugal and Italy and I’ve sked them to have me more involved in supporting on these too (if not, I get bored waiting while, instead, I’m eager to share news with you!)
… and I’ve succeeded … Otherwise, I would have gone on strike and threatened to resign (how bad am I?).
With that said, where are we with my local duties?
The Trays! As you can see from the pics below (I got them today), hedge cuts are now smooth but one well bottom surface is still weak (this is the only small issue to be tuned in these days, we really hope they can improve this, differently we will change supplier and will ship he games in 2024 … I’m joking!).
Then the other task I was working on at my end is how to better protect your games during shipment. Last month I got very upset by receiving a new game with smashed corners and dents everywhere (even if the Publisher nicely added rigid corners protections on each corner!) so, in my last update I mentioned this task and agreed with « WYG? » Principals to also offer for this a sort of deluxe protection, which is not elegant but hopefully suits the purpose of preventing damages due to indelicate handling by some couriers. So, with the Printer, in these weeks, we ran several loops of partial and full foam samples. In the end we opted for full protection. Actually, this can be considered as an extra stretch goal given for free as it was not considered in the original bill of materials, but after my personal experience and thanks to the willingness of the Principals to protect and prevent issues, it is settled!
Now, let’s go back to the previous Update (and my additional involvement on new exciting tasks!) where I mentioned the remaining pending/ongoing duties:
1) New pledge manager: here the update is from Mariano. He is scrutinizing several platforms (GameFound, BackeKit, and another one which I forgot the name of). This should not be a critical timing task, what really matters (and I discussed in person with him) is what the PM will offer to our Backers. We concurred on 4 main features:
a) the possibility to update shipment addresses (asked by many).
b) the possibility to level up the existing pledge (as some Backers are willing to switch from Base or Upgrade to Deluxe.
c) the possibility for a late pledge for those people who wrote directly to us with the hope to jump on board as the project restarted (so, this chance will be given, but to be fair to the original KS Backers, price won’t be same as KS, of course, and there will be limited availability).
d) Adds on/Products will be added as shopping options.
→ to be transparent to all of you (and as previously assumed by some fine Backers) these Options b/c/d will be the best chance for « WYG? » to recover some funds for covering part of the shipping costs. Hence all revenues will be first dedicated to Madeira’s project final delivery, then, if any, me and the « WYG? » team will go eat a pizza with the leftovers.
Last thing on PM: the PM will be open only before shipping for a few weeks (giving enough time for everyone to update their data; upgrade their pledges and do crazy shopping). We will send out a notice in advance of course and I will support it.
2) Shipping rates studies: here the update is from Veronica. She is in contact with different forwarders and have various options under study (comparison/efficiency/opportunities for different countries). Given the continuous fluctuation of costs, the decision on which forwarder to use will be taken when she has completed the analysis on the final quotations close to the start of shipments.
3) Printing other variants (base and expansion) boxes: another update from both Mariano, (who completed the specific artworks) and Veronica (who edited, and finally checked the files). Files are delivered to the Printer (me in copy to witness). I asked the Printer to rush for e-proofs (and I may ask for a Digital sample of both, so I can show you something physical in future). Also, I shall supervise the printing operations in order to collect good evidence of this task’s completion, but I can’t give a date now as the Printer will agree on that only after e-proofs approval (and that’s why I urged them to rush).
4) New Rulebooks: proof-reading completed. Veronica will have to spend time editing the final version. But here I raise a personal consideration: often rulebooks are affected by subtle typos and small mistakes that jump out only after printing when players have them in their hands. So, I won’t stress Veronica with urgency on this matter; instead, as we want this to be a perfect edition, I suggested her to run additional proof-reading after her final editing. Moreover, while I’m writing, I’m coming up with the additional idea to get all of you (who is willing to help for the sake of their own product) to get the files available online before printing. I mentioned to Veronica some people already volunteered in the comments area, but fair comment from her was that we should avoid too many « thinking heads » with different opinions turns this opportunity into an issue … so I had to agree that having already a professional mother tongue expert in rulebooks is enough, but at least we should grab the chance to catch micro mistakes, not opinions that may distort existing contents. Hope you agree with me … let me know your thoughts in the comments. Appreciate!
5) Final assembly: last but not least, after much good news, there must be always something wrong to remind us we are always only imperfect human beings, no? So here we go with the unexpected bitter bite of that good-looking and delicious cake. 3 weeks ago, I wrote final assembly would have been re-scheduled in November (and I don’t forget I have to eat my preferred baseball hat for missing October) … and by fact this would have been possible in November considering all components are ready (only the trays by next week) … if not because of the Rulebooks just mentioned above. As I’ve explained above, there are good reasons for giving that task more time, at this point there are no other reasons or needs for us to buy time and postpone the assembly. How this affects the Timeline is the obvious question mark I see popping up over your heads. To my best assumption, containing within November the combo of 2nd proof-reading/editing/online files, would means to go for printing rulebooks and final assembly in December. With this, we will have completely depleted and exhausted the buffer time protection I was keeping in my pocket for emergencies… This to say: don’t worry, we are still on track for 2023 Q1 delivery! (here you get the sugar pill that "rose tints your world and keep you safe from trouble and pain").
You may have noticed by the Update title/opening (and last sentence) which is my preferred Musical ever now « just a jump to the left, then a step to the right, with your hands on the hips… that really drives you insane »!
With much excitement, yours
TinuZ and the « WYG? » aliens mindbender from Transylvania!
Actualité # 43 de Kickstarter
Dear Madeira’s Backers and Supporters, it’s nice to write to you again!
Time is running really fast; I can’t believe almost 4 weeks are gone by from my last update.
I won’t waste it with too many words (as I’d love to do) but let me, at least, mention and underline the first big news, which I’m making decision now while writing and without having agreed it with « WYG? » Principals (I feel really naughty but, damn, am I or am I not the Communications responsible??), so: for the very first time on this KS Project, this Update is Public!
I heard your voice and I also have matured the idea, as we’re getting close to the goal (because there we are, still with some adverse headwinds, seeing the finish line) that if we really want to involve more potential Supporters, we must give visibility to these Updates.
By fact having more people jumping onboard with next Pledge Manager means « WYG? » will get more oxygen to cover the shipment expenses (or at least recover part of them) and help all of you in getting the games … so, it’s necessary to inform all original Backers about the opportunity to upgrade their pledges and start informing, in advance, new potential Backers (and you may be of help by spreading the news) about this opportunity! (even if this means to show everyone our -still- dirty cloths and the complications to be managed).
Now, as usual, let’s go back to the previous Update with pending/ongoing duties (this time I’ll start with the troubling topics):
- New pledge manager: after your comments I’ve discussed more internally about the right timing for the PM. As one of the (vital and necessary) options is to order add-ons and other games from « WYG? » warehouse (in Portugal), some of you suggested avoiding December and January (as Xmas and Holidays will drain everyone credit card) but it’s also true that if we wait February, we will miss the promised Q1 delivery (and I would hate myself failing this). So, we are still discussing.
My last proposal was to, if possible, send out in January (before Chinese New Year) the Deluxe games (vast majority) originally pledged to the fulfillment centers, and then after, all other New and Upgraded pledges coming with the new PM … it would sound good, but this definitively clashes with the fact that the PM is necessary also to refresh the many delivery addresses of the original Deluxe edition’s Backers! …And this is where I’m struggling now.
Please let me know in the comments your constructive opinions (because, as far as it makes me excited to ship the Deluxe games in January, one of my fears is that PM must come before shipment, or we will generate a painful mess…).
Anyway, for the sake of new potential Backers I keep listed below the 4 features the new PM will implement:
- a) the possibility to update original Backers’s shipment addresses.
- b) the possibility to level up the existing pledges (as some Backers are willing to switch from Base/Expansions/Upgrade to Deluxe Collector’s Edition.
- c) the possibility for a late pledge for New Backers (this chance will be given, but to be fair to the original KS Backers, the Deluxe Collector’s Edition price won’t be same as KS, of course, and there will be limited availability).
- d) Add-ons/Products will be added as shopping options.
→ these Options b/c/d will be the best chance for « WYG? » to recover some funds for covering part of the shipping costs. All revenues will be dedicated to Madeira’s project final delivery.
- New Rulebooks: not ready yet. That’s the reality. I know it sounds weird, but it is still under editing (according to the new Inclusivity & Diversity standards that were not there in 2013 original Rules). I did setup a hard due date this week and already pre-agreed with the Printer a timeline of digital sampling + approval check (1 week) and printing (2 weeks). Which means early January availability, if due date is respected. Because this is putting at risk the option to ship out before the Chinese New Year, I plan to send a new Update next week. Challenge on. Of course, if this fails, then the opportunity mentioned before -Shipment before CNY- falls and then PM discussion is solved … but we’ll try with all our energies in not giving up on Q1 delivery).
Wait … In the moment I’m writing (trust me) I’ve just got an email with the final draft going for a new proofreading loop, here an unauthorized leaked sneak pre-view
-
Shipping rates studies: as priority 1 are the Rulebooks, this is next urgent matter to be closed while waiting during the 3 weeks Rulebooks get printed. So, to be updated later on.
-
Final assembly: affected by the lack of printed Rulebooks, also this operation slips. But in parallel we’ve worked on the single shipping carton box, so all is ready. From the pics below you can see the game will be treated with Respect (2cm all around deluxe foam, extra cost not in the KS stretch goals, for a Deluxe game).
- Printing other variants (base and expansion) boxes: I’ve got the Digital printed samples, so today I can show some pics. Boxes and inlays are all good, with artworks well centered within the cutlines. I also tested the materials allocation choosing proper quantities and sizes of zipbags… then I gave approval for production.
What to add more… I know the news about Rulebooks will annoy some of you (as I’m/we are not happy too) and now that we are getting close to the final assembly it hurts to hear about any further delay, even if small, so here I ask You all to stretch a bit your patience, understanding the small but passionate « WYG? » family is doing their best in accomplishing this troubled project.
Think positive and pre-taste this beautiful game over your gaming tables.
To close, many good reasons for the title of this Update … « Freedom » in reading the Update was the first thing it jumped to my mind, then extrapolating the lyrics, it fits perfectly too…
- I won’t let you down
I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in the (sound) game
It’s the one good thing that I’ve got
I won’t let you down
So please don’t give me up
Because I would really, really love to stick around
Oh yeah - (George Michael - Freedom 1990)

Actu de projet no. 46 : Madeira Collector’s Edition + Expansion par le créateur What’s Your Game
Hello Backers,
while many of you around the world are enjoying some good holidays, here in the Middle-country (中国 ZhōngGuó aka China), but not only, we are back at work.
As always, our Update is awaited with trepidation, because much is the desire to have confirmation in the happy conclusion of this project.
Today’s news are:
1) 2nd loop of all printed Rules are in my hands! Colors are consistent (and a layout problem not mentioned before was fixed).
… and to ensure I’m not only telling stories, here below the stacks!
2) New Pledge Manger:
No excuses here, the PM it’s not ready yet.
Reason is: WYG? has very limited energies and focuses all of them in shipping asap the vast majority Deluxe games to all original Backers (see Shipping @ Point 3).
Nevertheless, the PM will be opened as soon as possible (hopefully in April, if not in May) keeping into account all extra needs and opportunities as mentioned in the past (so, as said, it’s a matter of prioritizing things, and 2200 deluxe backers without the game who spent the most will be targeted for a wave 1 shipment).
This absolutely does NOT mean all others who purchased a Base/Expansion/Upgrade are less important to WYG?, but to them (considering many have raised request to level-up their pledges to a Deluxe) the PM readiness it’s a necessity we have to wait for.
Moreover, in front of a big task that is never happening, we definitively prefer to break it down in smaller tasks and accomplish everything step-by-step (instead never).
WYG? really hopes you all concur on this pragmatic approach.
3) 1st wave Shipment:
In April we definitively should be able to pack the Deluxe games (per focus explained above). This means that if all goes smooth, in May games will be shipped door-to-door to the Deluxe Backers.
Exactly, this means intention is to by-pass the [sea freight shipment to a fulfillment center in Europe/US->your home] (3 months?) and come directly to your doorstep! (1 month?)
As you can understand, this is a strong sign from WYG? willingness to respect the Q2 delivery for majority of the Backers… still giving opportunities to all other to level-up and get theirs.
I’ve nothing to add for now, there are still steps to do (PM) and I really hope most of you are getting happy for these news.
Best!
