Description from designer
In the year 2077, with the rapid development of technology and industrialization over the past few decades, Earth has given birth to a myriad of crises. The ecological environment has collapsed, artificial intelligence has begun to spiral out of control, governments have crumbled, populations have dwindled, and disasters are emerging incessantly. Earth and human society are gradually approaching the brink of collapse. In this moment of crisis, you are alone, yet fortunate. Alone because there are few people or places on Earth that can provide you with help or reliance; fortunate because you still have the fortress—a bastion of wisdom forged by the most advanced technology—which gives you the courage to persevere. Will you successfully escape Earth? Or will you act as the savior to resolve the crisis and turn the tide?
Roborover 2077: Last Hope is a cooperative board game designed for 1-4 players. Players take on the roles of brave explorers, venturing out from their fortress bases to gather resources, produce necessities, and earn hydrogen for survival.
During the exploration actions, players collect resource cards, tech-gear cards, survival token cards and bonus cards or buy repair cards. There are three types of resources: water, food, and energy cubes. Players match or sequence these resources to earn multipliers that boost their hydrogen score, which ultimately affects their victory points. Excess resource cards can be used to supply the fortress’s production. Tech-gear cards are used to resolve unexpected events triggered by the app. The more tech-gear cards accumulated, the higher the probability of resolving events. Correct answers will be rewarded with hydrogen tokens. The production action is at the core of the game, where players need to interact with the physical fortress and combine resources to produce necessities, earning hydrogen points and other valuable items. For example, combining water with an energy cube creates energy water, while water and food can craft vitality soup. If the necessities decrease to zero, players will have to deduct hydrogen from their own scores. Therefore, they need to cooperate to keep the necessities always in the safe zone.
Driven by App-based events, the game progresses towards its climax. The events include natural disasters, interference, bonus, recalls, and many other types. They also coordinate with the fortress to create a fresh gameplay experience. For example, featuring a rotating robotic arm and automatic identification technology, Roborover’s intelligent cards system allows the players to utilize high-tech gear cards to tackle various events in the App. During a recall event, players will be rewarded to use the walkie-talkie to discover the clues of survival token.
There are two strategies to finish the game. First, you can achieve this by repairing until all malfunctioning components are fully restored. Repair cards can be purchased using hydrogen tokens during the shop’s open period. Successfully repair one component will be rewarded with one reputation token. Second, you must find the correct survival token card. The way to obtain the survival token card is by traveling through a wormhole to another player’s zone, which requires strategic planning of your route, because in other zones your movement steps will be reduced to one. Simply input the number of hydrogen tokens, reputation tokens, and adjacent resource pairs each player has acquired, and the final game leader board will be directly obtained. This formula rewards players for their ability to manage resources and plan their moves strategically.
In solo mode, players will take on the role of a commander, and the four exploration team roles in multiplayer mode will be unified under the commander’s control. Players will explore different locations, and upon successful completion, they can unlock the next location. Unlike multiplayer mode, in solo mode, each round is fixed at 60 minutes. In the story, each location faces a disaster at the end of 60 minutes. Only by successfully finding the survival token and accumulating enough hydrogen tokens and coins can the disaster be averted at the final moment, and players can proceed to the next destination.
