Bonjour,
Update #68 : avec 15% sur l’extension mutanimals pour les backers EU!
Cowabunga, dudes!
As some of you may have seen over in the comments, the games have successfully set sail on schedule. Now, for the surprise reveal…
All of our EU backers who’ve so patiently supported us through these delays will be receiving 15% off their Mutanimals expansion!
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, we’re excited to share the first segment of the Mutanimals dev diary with our very own Pete Walsh. Now, since this is an ultra-secret sneak peek, this is all prototype and not final – including the art. With that being said, here’s the man himself to introduce Mondo Gecko!
Mondo Gecko has always been one of my favourite characters from TMNT. I remember the first time I saw the episode « Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko » and thought how radical is this reptile!
The Archie origin stands out as one of the best Mondo moments for me though, and the awesome figure by Playmates. Getting the chance to design Mondo was super exciting, I wanted to celebrate all the things that make him fun, exciting, and unique.
Mondo’s core ability Total Grindage is all about as you guessed, grinding. Grinding is an excellent terrain move in TMNT Adventures but unfortunately, there is little opportunity to use it. This changes with Mondo, he can grind along the edge of any prop token on the map (prop being a token that represents a physical object on the map like a bench, trash can, dumpster, etc). This opens a world of opportunity to explore.
The second part of his ability is to move along (but not end his move action on) blocking terrain. This is essentially Mondo using his gecko prowess to crawl across the wall ignoring enemies. Paired with his skill card Stealth-O-Rama, where he can essentially turn himself invisible (as long as he doesn’t make an action other than move), makes Mondo an excellent infiltrator and stealth character.
Mondo isn’t without attacking skills, Time To Get Gnarly and Mute Grab (or Newt Grab as some of the playtesters have called it), give him the opportunity to lay down some hurt too.
Mondo’s three other skills are unique and tailored just to him.
Reptile Tendencies is an Instant card that lets him evade an attack by dropping his tail. He will need to save up his Focus to pay a cost to return it to his hand though, this simulates the time for it to regrow.
Off The Wall grants Mondo the Mobility trait. This is a new keyword first appearing in Mutanimals. This allows Mondo to ignore terrain and enemies while moving (except blocking). This really solidifies the infiltration aspect and movement for Mondo.
Lastly is one of my favourites. Have you ever pulled off that perfect killer grind and wanted to flip into a manual to keep that trick combo going just so you can grind again? Well want no more, 50:50 To Manual To 5-0 is exactly that! It allows you to pay an extra move icon to move to another piece of grindable terrain and then keep on grinding!
Feel free to add Mondo to any of your games that you are playing at home. All feedback is welcomed. For Action dice I recommend using a D6 to roll, then use dice placeholder tokens to spend (just like you would with normal Action dice).
You may also see some new icons here.
The infinite/constant icon is an extension to the character’s core ability. These skills are always active, even when knocked down and don’t count as a skill card played on your turn.
The lightning bolt is a reminder that this is an instant card. It can be played at certain times (when directed in the card text) and in some cases doesn’t count as a card played on your turn.
Finally, in Mutanimals all characters will be able to be played 3 different ways (Hero, AI Villain and 4v1 Villain)! Here is a sneak peek at the AI villain sheet for Mondo! You can sub Mondo in for a villain leader in any of your favorite missions, be warned though, he’s fast and will deliver some gnarly blows.
Also, for the Easter egg hunters out there, check out the sewer lair tile and you may see a Mondo one hidden in there.
Before we sign off for the day, we also wanted to share that the AUGS Community Drive is once again taking submissions. Share your painted minis and homebrew creations here. Who knows, you might just see them pop up on the IDW Games page! That’s all for today folks. Until next time, we’ll see you down in the comments.
