Update #49 - The Rulebook Is Here

Greetings fellow detectives!

This month’s update is filled with progress on our game - we have a handy PDF of the English rulebook ready and some pre-production photos.

Follow the rules

An English version of the rulebook is available to download here. We have also uploaded it to the BoardGameGeek, it should appear there shortly. Take a look as a taste of things to come with Dark Orleans. Bear in mind, this is a pre-production version of the document, there are slight chances of small adjustment that will be done before it goes into print.

Tokens Production

Big things have small beginnings, and the same story is here. Please take a look at samples of our map markers for characters. Those are color tests - our development team chose the preferred shades of colors.

Character Markers - These are used for Point Of Interest and Location Markers specific only for one particular character. No other one can interact with it. It can be your lost daughter, an old friend from the army, or a challenge that only you can overcome.

Point of Interest Markers - whenever you enter a new location, the App will list for you Items/Non-Player Characters/entities you can interact with.

Location Markers - These are used on the main city board to mark places you can visit. They are double-sided, once you have visited the location once, just flip the token to indicate the fact that the location has been visited.

Finale Act marker - Every scenario has a finale and this marker is used when you are near the finale. When you visit this one particular location, there is no turning back.

See you very soon!

La nouvelle update…

Update #51 - Samples Are on Their Way

We are happy to announce that we have sent the graphic files to our manufacturer to create so-called “Digital Sample” of the Dark Quarter with scheduled delivery to us for May 2024, so in a few weeks.

What Is a “Digital Sample”?

Before mass production starts, the manufacturer sends to the publisher a single copy of all the paper components to approve. It’s the last minute check for all the minor mistakes like typos or wrong icons in the materials. If any mismatch is found, we send the changelog to the manufacturer, receive a new sample and once everything is approved, we sign off mass production.

As soon as we receive the package, we will share a photo session of it with everyone here.

Plastic Trays Design

It’s a very early phase, but we are ready to share with you a visualization of the plastic trays for the game contents. There is a chance that we will receive those along with the Digital Sample. If not, slightly later.

Core Game Tray Design

The Yesterday’s Demon

Lost to The Night

Miniatures Upgrade Box

Bear in mind, this is still a technical documentation. For quality photos, we need to wait a bit still.

What’s next? In a few weeks, we will share with you a photo session of the ready-to-be-mass-manufactured game.

We are very excited to be entering this phase, and we are looking forward to sharing more information with you, that shows the progress of manufacturing, as we get closer to entering the world of The Dark Quarter, together.

See you very soon!

Good day, detectives!

Hey everyone! Welcome back

It’s Devon, back again to deliver the deets. August was a whirlwind of trips, but I’m here to unpack the update and pump up the progress for The Dark Quarter.

Manufacturing in progress

The Dark Quarter is coming together as manufacturing continues. This momentous phase should be finished by the end of October, which would bring us one step closer to shipping and delivery.

Original estimate for manufacturing was 60-90 days, so we’re at the earlier end of the spectrum. We hope to continue that trend in the remaining fulfillment steps for shipping and delivery.

App development progresses

Our partners at Van Ryder Games continue to hone the digital edge of The Dark Quarter experience with scenario testing on the base game while the Lucky Duck team works on the expansion content.

All the while, we’re collectively polishing the user experience for the app so that it melts into the background and immerses you into the world of Dark Orleans!

A special playtesting team has formed to evaluate both the base game and expansion content on the app. Every scenario and part of the digital hybrid experience is being examined. The team is checking for bugs and evaluating the UI/UX design work for final app features.

Localization has begun

Progress continues for the localization of The Dark Quarter with the translation teams. The deadline is the end of November, and then we’ll enter into a production period. Once the files are approved for production, we’ll have more explicit information as to the timeline for the localizations.

What else is ‘app-ening

While manufacturing progresses, it’s all hands on deck to fine-tune the app. Also, the logistics team has been coordinating with the factory to prepare as best as possible for fulfillment, making sure we find the best packing method now that we have final samples for all the products.

The response to our last update on manufacturing was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you so much for your passion. We’re just as excited as you about this game, and we can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with these characters and this story.

Where would you explore first in Dark Orleans?

As always, we are grateful for your patience and understanding, and we look forward to engaging with you all in the comments :slightly_smiling_face:

Best,

Devon @ Lucky Duck Games
